Review by Sandre the Giant
The new EP from Demonstealer, ‘And This Too Shall Pass’, is out in December and looks to be another great addition to the back catalogue of Demonic Resurrection mastermind Sahil Makhija. It is another four tracks of blistering blackened death metal from one of the best in the business.
Opener ‘This Crumbling Earth’ instantly has that sense of intensity that is somewhat of a trademark. It is relentless in its speed and attack, peppering blastbeats across a grandiose backdrop of frantic tech death riffs and blackened atmospheres. The little melodic interludes are pure Gojira as well. A master of blending turbulent riff storms with a whole host of interesting techniques, the Demonstealer can mix in a little dissonance (‘A Festering Wound’) or some Black Dahlia Murder-esque melodic death majesty (‘Systemic Faiure’) and it always feels just right.
Closing with the gloomy melodic powerhouse ‘From Flesh to Ashes’, ‘And This Too Shall Pass’ is another commendable addition to a body of work that has rarely dipped below outstanding for me in all the time I’ve followed Demonstealer. EPs sometimes come across as a space filler between full lengths, but ‘And This Too Shall Pass’ is an important addition to the discography. Awesome shit.
