Abhomine - Larvae Offal Swine

Abhomine is the newest project from legendary Angelcorpse mainman Pete Helmkamp, and is billed as his first true solo project. ‘Larvae Offal Swine’ is out now on Hells Headbangers and Osmose Productions, and is a twisting, miasmic exercise of musical extremity.

Opener proper ‘Buried With Pig’, which follows the ugly, threatening intro, is a rabid unstoppable slice of raw, blackened savagery. Following some of his previous work, Abhomine’s debut has a more overt black metal influence, with a grinding death metal base. It has a filthy sound, lacking any subtlety in its bludgeoning, and the muddied production really adds to the primal rage within.

‘Larvae Offal Swine’ has this great fiery ferocity about it. The relentless primitive battering of ‘Kapos and Whores’ reminds me of the likes of Impaled Nazarene, and while ‘Larvae Offal Swine’ doesn’t match up to some of Helmkamp’s previous works (see the AWESOME ‘Exterminate’), it is a pretty solid release with some great songs, and a pretty excellent atmosphere. Buy this if you enjoy savage music that could eviscerate you limb from limb, because Abhomine are vicious.
