Serpents Athirst - Heralding Ceremonial Mass Obliteration

Choral singing and bombs dropping usher in this devastating three track hit from Sri Lankan death/black/chaos metal horde Serpents Athirst. ‘Heralding Ceremonal Mass Obliteration’ is my favourite album title of the year thus far, and is a belch of purest black evil from the chasms of Hell. Available now!

Opener ‘Introductory Venom/Heralding Ceremonial Mass Obliteration’ comes in in the aforementioned way, before a scuzzy, chainsaw riff breaks out of your speaker and runs rampant, while the foulest bile is spat from an inhuman vocal. Oppressive in nature, and evil in intention, Serpents Athirst don’t pull any spiked glove punches here. The other tracks are more of the same, with the drooling bloodlust of ‘Ritual Vomiting’ being particularly vile and relentless. The sounds is satisfying thick but raw at the same time, meaning everything is clear in its filthy, flailing ferocity.

Closing with the howling rage of ‘Congregation Decimation’, Serpents Athirst had me immediately pressing rewind and smashing this back on. It isn’t easy to impress with one of these three track black/death EPs these days, what with such a saturated market, but I really like what Serpents Athirst bring. The vocals, the production, the maddeningly heavy assault, ‘Heralding Ceremonial Mass Obliteration’ has it all. Essential shit!
