Biopsy are another discovery from India for me, a brutal death metal band embarking on a quest to bring sub continental brutality to a wider audience. Their ‘Fractals of Derangement’ EP is fifteen minutes of crushing rage and unholy emanations.
‘Hemolytic Crisis’ is an unstoppable tide of aggression, mixing blasting with a headbanging groove, all while an inhuman growl vomits pure evil. ‘Anatomical Reconstruction’ is more of the same, a relentless blast of Dying Fetus-esque nastiness. No quarter is given, there is nothing to break the rampage. This is quarter of an hour of unrelenting brutality, and it’s damn good. Perhaps adding some variety into the riff patterns in future would be good, but as a debut offering it is hard to fault.
Crushing through the kind of rampant death you expect from bands like Abominable Putridity or Disgorge, Biopsy show their potential to be a big name in the underground soon, if they can build on the brutality in songs like ‘Surgical Symmetry’ and add a little bit in the dynamics that their peers have developed over the years. But Biopsy are gonna be brutalising much bigger audiences in the years to come.
